March 20 Saturday, 1943

ToDay is the Birthday of ___________

Cold fog, east wind.

Finished up the raking on top of the hill, now have to go down into the garden.

Came home at noon and built me a cold frame in the back yard.

Walder came over to see what I was doing.

After I finished the frame I raked in the garden till supper time.

Eleanor got a letter from Eddie Wood.

I think we will have better weather tomorrow.

Percy came in tonight and played crib. I have beaten him the last two times.

Thelma has a bad cold and feels mean.

Bobbie Holton has pneumonia.

Archie still has a sore foot.

  1. I loved my aunt Thelma. When they came down for the winter I spent some great moments together. When they were living at Weeki Wachee Jess called my mother if she would come up as Thelma was sick and he was worried. Mom said I’ll be there in an hour and we drove up. Mom went in with Thelma and I hung out with Jess in the kitchen. He started to get the pans out to cook something and then turned to the bedroom and asked “are you going to cook tonight? Boom rockets exploding all around. He came out of the bedroom with a wounded look on his face. If he had said “I’m cooking tonight what would like?” he would have been her angle. He heated her soup and brought it to her. Suddenly it’s the 5th of July. Peace and love are back.
