January 10 Sunday, 1943

ToDay is the Birthday of ___________

Fair today and warmer.

I went up on the hill this morning and packed up a lot of stuff to go to Boston tomorrow.

Built a dog house to go up for Ginger.

After dinner I went up again and packed up a lot more, and stayed till 7:45 P.M.

Harry Hornblower called up from Washington and I spoke to him.

Saw four cedar waxwings up on the hill. The boss said Eleanor could put her car up at the hill for the winter.

Thelma and I walked over and spent a couple of hours with Walder and Vick this evening.

There was a good article in the Boston paper about the State Guard.

Eleanor went over and spent the afternoon with Georges Mother.

Hope it warms up again soon.

  1. I love his casual comment about building a dog house today. Something that would be a fairly big project for me, or even a purchase. I like to imagine that people in his time were handier than we are today. Maybe that’s just Jesse and me – different lives. He’s only a few years older than I am. I suppose if we’d had our children earlier in my life, I’d be visiting our kids as he’s does Vic and Walder. Tallis and Luca would be twenty something.
